Asia Today reporter Kim Si-young — JC Bitsomang Eye Clinic announced on May 16 that it had introduced the PanOptix intraocular lens, which is designed to help minimize posterior capsule opacification following cataract surgery.

Conventional trifocal intraocular lenses used in cataract surgery were designed to provide intermediate vision at approximately 70 to 90 centimeters. According to the article, this could mean that some Korean patients required additional time to adapt after surgery.

JC Bitsomang Eye Clinic therefore introduced the PanOptix lens developed by the U.S.-based company Alcon. The article describes PanOptix as an intraocular lens based on a four-focus optical design, with intermediate vision set at approximately 60 centimeters.

It is presented as being well suited to the 60-centimeter viewing distance frequently used by Korean patients in everyday activities.

The article also states that conventional intraocular lenses resulted in light loss of 14 percent or more. PanOptix is described as reducing light loss compared with previous intraocular lenses, potentially offering an advantage for visual activities in dimly lit environments.
