What Is Corneal Transplantation?
The cornea is the thin, transparent tissue covering the front surface of the eye. It allows light to enter the eye and helps focus it onto the retina.
When the cornea becomes damaged or cloudy due to disease or injury, light cannot pass through properly, resulting in impaired vision or, in severe cases, blindness. Corneal transplantation is a surgical procedure in which the damaged or cloudy cornea is removed and replaced with a healthy, transparent donor cornea.
