As people age, they experience a gradual decline in the structure and function of the body. Physical conditions may also develop as the body becomes weaker. Presbyopia and cataracts are among the most common age-related eye conditions.

Both conditions may initially cause blurred or cloudy vision. Because presbyopia and cataracts can sometimes be mistaken for one another, some patients may delay necessary cataract surgery. Careful evaluation is therefore important.

The eye’s natural lens focuses incoming light. A cataract occurs when this normally transparent lens becomes cloudy.

This clouding can lead to reduced vision. If treatment is delayed and the cataract becomes advanced and the lens hardens, surgery may become more difficult and the risk of complications may increase. Early detection of cataracts is therefore particularly important.
