[Kukmin Ilbo] Good People to Provide Cataract Surgery to 50 Patients in Mongolia

The World Blindness Prevention Volunteer Team of Good People, an international development NGO chaired by the Rev.

Cho Yong-gi, will visit Fellowship Hospital in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from August 9 to 14 to provide sight-restoring cataract surgery to 50 patients.

Following the previous year’s mission, this medical outreach was organized in response to urgent requests from cataract patients and their families who could not afford surgery.

The team, consisting of three medical professionals and 14 volunteers, plans to provide cataract surgery while also sharing the gospel.

Good People’s World Blindness Prevention Volunteer Team is a specialized medical outreach team dedicated to sight-restoring surgery.

It has helped restore sight to patients in developing countries, including the Philippines and China, who were unable to receive surgery despite losing their vision because of financial hardship.

Dr. Gyung Bai Choi of JC Bitsomang Eye Clinic, an ophthalmologist with the World Blindness Prevention Volunteer Team, said, “I still remember the tears of gratitude shed by a young Mongolian woman who had lived in darkness for seven years because of cataracts and had even suffered from depression.”

He added, “I hope this mission will do more than restore patients’ sight. I hope it will also transform their lives and fill them with hope.”
