What Is Dacryocystography?

When the lacrimal drainage pathway leading toward the nose becomes blocked, tears may accumulate in the eyes and continuously overflow onto the face. This condition is known as epiphora.

Dacryocystography is a diagnostic examination in which a small amount of contrast medium is introduced into the lacrimal drainage system to evaluate whether an obstruction is present.

A C-arm X-ray system uses real-time fluoroscopic imaging to visualize the passage of the contrast medium and help identify the location and extent of lacrimal drainage obstruction.
