A veterans contract medical institution is a private medical facility designated to provide more convenient access to medical care for persons of national merit and other eligible veterans who live in areas without a veterans hospital or at a considerable distance from one.
Scope of Medical Expense Support
Eligible patients may receive support for all medical conditions, service-connected conditions, or approved conditions according to their veterans status and eligibility classification.
Supported expenses may include:
Medical expenses covered as health insurance benefits under the National Health Insurance Act
Eighteen designated non-covered items, including MRI, ultrasonography, and certain stomachic and digestive medications
Patients may be responsible for expenses that are not included in the designated support coverage.
Treatment Period
Inpatient treatment is generally limited to 30 days, or 90 days for long-term care hospitals.
If the permitted treatment period is exceeded or government-funded medical expenses exceed KRW 3,000,000, the patient may be transferred to a veterans hospital unless there are exceptional circumstances.
How to Use a Veterans Contract Medical Institution
Please visit the designated medical institution and present your Certificate of National Merit or Korean resident registration card. After your eligibility for government-funded medical care has been confirmed, you may receive treatment.
As the services and coverage available at designated contract medical institutions may differ from those provided by veterans hospitals, please contact the clinic before your visit.
