Uveitis and designation as a contracted medical institution for veterans—these were the two key factors behind the decision.

These two factors led one ophthalmology clinic to make the bold decision to establish an internal medicine department within the clinic.

The clinic is JC Bitsomang Eye Clinic in Yeouido, Seoul. When the clinic relocated to a larger facility in March, it recruited an internal medicine specialist and opened both an internal medicine department and a health screening center.

“Uveitis is often associated with underlying systemic conditions. In particular, many patients develop uveitis in connection with autoimmune diseases. As a designated medical institution for veterans, we also see many patients eligible for veterans’ healthcare benefits. We wanted to reduce the inconvenience of having them visit a separate local internal medicine clinic before coming to our ophthalmology clinic.”
